There are many different kinds of electrical wire. Each different of electrical wire is perfect for some other job. The wires have even different kinds of insulation and protection; this is exactly what makes each perfect for another application. There is certainly THHN and TFFN wires which can be similar. Then there are the NM-B and Romex wires and even the MC Conduit cable. These wires are fantastic for electrical work indoors and a few of these could also be used outside, and in conduit.

    TFFN and THHN

These two wire names are abbreviations. TFFN represents thermoplastic insulation, flexible, fixture, and nylon coating. Even though the THHN is short for thermoplastic insulation, heat resistant, high temperature resistant, and nylon coating. Then throw in that some of the THHN wires come during a water, gas and oil prices resistant form, and you get THWN wire. They’re all single conductor copper wires that can be used both indoors, outdoors along with conduit.

    NM-B and Romex

Romex may be the Southwire model of an NM-B cable. The actual NM means non-metallic. Which means instead of the wire being incased in a metal jacket. The NM-B cable includes a PVC jacket round the multiple conductors it holds. Now this version of electrical wire can only provide indoors. The wire doesn’t have enough protection into it to be used outside. The most frequent use just for this form of wire is at insulated homes and buildings, running power from electrical boxes to outlets, appliance and lighting.

    MC Conduit Cable

This type of electrical cable is incredibly completely different from the NM-B cable. This is because the MC Conduit cable is metal clad. This sort of electrical cable comes with a aluminum interlocked armor jacket as opposed to the typical PVC. The aluminum jacket across the wires conductors is supposed to become a conduit so there will not be the need for one if it is being installed. This design can also be supposed to increase mobile phone process, consequently saving electricians and contractors both time and cash.

Each one of these electrical wires can be used indoors as building wire. Most can even be used outdoors in conduit too. Now despite the fact that many of these wires are somewhat similar, they are still different, hence the variation in applications. Make sure to check out all of your options to find the appropriate wire for your job or project!
